black friday product photos
How do I prepare product photos for Black Friday?
Prepare four images per product on sale: a clean hero shot, a version with empty space for the discount text, a bundle or lineup shot for gift buyers, and banner-shaped crops for your shop and profile. Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27, so aim to have the whole set finished by the end of October and spend November selling and packing rather than designing.
Black Friday photography is less about taking new photos and more about having the right versions ready before the rush. The products do not change in November; the frame around them does.
Black Friday 2026: the dates to work back from
- Thursday, November 26: Thanksgiving in the US. Expect early-access offers from big retailers to start the week before.
- Friday, November 27: Black Friday.
- Saturday, November 28: Small Business Saturday, a natural hook for independent shops.
- Monday, November 30: Cyber Monday, usually the last day of the sale weekend.
- Friday, December 25: Christmas Day. The sale weekend is where Christmas gift buying starts in earnest, so whatever you make now keeps working for another four weeks.
The four images a sale weekend needs
- A hero shot of each discounted product. Clean, sharp, product filling the frame. This is the image the discount hangs on, so it has to look worth full price.
- A text-ready version. The same product with genuine empty space beside or above it, where “25% off” can sit without covering the label. Most sale graphics look cramped because the photo never left room for words.
- A bundle or lineup shot. Black Friday buyers are often gift buyers, and a frame showing three or four products together sells the basket, not the item. If you have never shot your range in one image, this is the one to add.
- Banner crops. Your shop banner, story format and any email header all want different shapes. Decide the crops now, while you can still reshoot or re-frame, not on the Wednesday before.
Work backwards from late October
The honest scheduling advice is unglamorous: finish the images by the end of October. Early November goes on teasers, email prep and scheduling; the sale week itself goes on orders, questions and packing tape. Any photo you have not made by then will simply not get made, and the sale runs on whatever is lying around.
Building the set without a studio week
This is a case where rendering beats reshooting. If your products are already photographed, BrandStills can restage them for the event: the dark studio scene gives the moody, high-contrast look sale creative leans on, and collection scenes like the product lineup put several products in one frame without cloning artefacts. Because products stay in the app library, building a sale set for ten products is an evening of scene choices, about 30 seconds per image, not a new shoot. You can stage the short offer text on the image in the app too, then change just the wording when the sale moves from “this weekend” to “last hours”.
Labels, colours and proportions stay locked to your original photos, which matters more than usual here: a discount plus an inaccurate product image is how sale weekends turn into refund weeks.
When the sale weekend ends, the same products move straight into your Christmas scene for December, and the holiday posting timeline covers what to post when.
Get the set done while October is quiet. Get the app and start with your bestsellers, then read how to make the sale post itself look good.
Frequently asked questions
When should Black Friday images be ready?
Late October is the comfortable deadline. Teasers and email banners start going out in early November, and once orders pick up you will have no time to design anything. Nothing about the sale needs to be public in October; the assets just need to exist.
Do Black Friday photos have to be black and red?
No, and matching everyone else's black-and-red template is how a small shop disappears in the feed. A dark, dramatic version of your usual style signals the event while staying recognisably yours. Keep your own fonts and accent colour.
When is Black Friday 2026?
Friday, November 27, 2026, the day after US Thanksgiving. Small Business Saturday follows on November 28 and Cyber Monday on November 30, and many small shops run one offer across all four days.
Can I add the discount text in the app?
Yes. You can stage short text such as an offer line directly on the image in BrandStills, and change just the wording later, for example from 'this weekend' to 'last hours'. Keep it short; a photo carries one line well and a paragraph badly.
Should I reshoot products just for the sale?
Only bestsellers earn new images. For the rest, re-crop and re-stage what you have, or render existing product photos into darker, bolder scenes. The discount is the news; the photo just has to carry it cleanly.
Is BrandStills free?
BrandStills is free to install and includes starter credits. After that, you can subscribe for monthly credits or buy a one-time credit pack, no subscription required. Pack credits never expire. One credit makes one photo. Each edit creates a new photo, so it also uses one credit. Renders that fail do not use credits.

A sale post looks good when it is a strong product photo carrying one short, high-contrast line of text, such as the discount and nothing else. Start from your best product image, leave real empty space for the words, keep to one font and one accent colour, and put dates, codes and conditions in the caption instead of on the image.
Gift product photographyGift product photography places your product beside one or two ribbon-tied gift boxes with a little confetti, in warm neutral light. BrandStills renders it from two or three phone photos of the real product, so any listing can look giftable in about 30 seconds.
When should I start posting holiday content for my shop?Start holiday content six to eight weeks before the holiday itself, so for Christmas begin in late October to early November, with listings and gift guides ready before your social posts ramp up. Shoppers plan earlier than sellers expect, and the final week is for last-order reminders, not introductions.
